The Idea

Why look at indirect exposure at all?

Some of the most closely watched AI companies are still privately held, which means everyday investors can't buy shares directly — yet. This research looks at a different angle: public companies that already have a financial stake in that growth.

01

Identify the stake

The research traces which publicly traded companies hold equity positions in leading private AI companies.

02

Weigh the exposure

Not every stake is meaningful — the report looks at how large a position is relative to the company's overall size.

03

Do your own research

You get the full write-up and decide whether it fits your own portfolio and risk tolerance.

Who's Behind the Research

A former tech executive, not just a market commentator

The Near Future Report is edited by Jeff Brown, who spent over two decades in leadership roles at technology companies including Qualcomm, NXP Semiconductors, and Juniper Networks before moving into full-time investment research. He's joined by senior analyst Nick Rokke, a CFA charterholder.

A quick note before you continue: "Indirect exposure" means owning a company that itself holds a stake in another business — it is not the same as owning shares in that private company directly, and its value can be a small part of the public company's overall business. This is educational research, not personalized investment advice, and any pre-IPO company discussed may never go public at all.
